After The Rapture...

Here are some pictures of the show.
Thank you to everyone who came out and endured the beginning stages of the Rapture with us.
Fun was seemingly had by all, but you never know with kids these days.

New Blog Look. New Pix... Oh, and The Rapture starts tomorrow.

Today is the 20th of May:
So I hope everyone is prepared for their ascend to Heaven tomorrow...

or, (if you're like me) you're gearing up for the best 5 month orgy - murder - natural disaster - drug OD party EVER!
(What on Earth am I going to wear?)

Tomorrow is The Rapture according to some people who are getting a lot of press.
Can I get a "whoop whoop" for Armageddon?
Can I get an Amen?

I figured it would be a good time to change around the blog. I have a neat new header up there, and a new "darker/sinner" overall feel now with the slightly abstract black background.

On a different note, Tonight is my show!
Phoenix Cafe [just south of 10mile, on John R, in good ol' Hazel Park]
I'll be arriving around 8pm. People will play music around 9pm.

It's going to be very relaxed. More of a gathering than a show.

And if you play music and feel like playing a few songs, by all means, come on down and play a few
[I'm really liking the "bold" button this post]

And also, I have some pictures of my side of the finished cassette sleeves.

Penis Vein

"O" Face

Fishnet Body Suit

S.-ing a D.

Porn Stash

Hand in Panties

Nip Slip

I hope to see you there tonight. Tapes will be 5 bucks [if you want to buy a tape], but it's free to get in, and it's BYOB, if you're into that sort of thing.

Can't wait to see you at the after (rapture) party on the 21st.

50 done!

Hello Reader:

I have been burning the candle at both ends trying to finish at least 50 tapes before our show on Friday. I'm proud to announce that I have done just that.

Here is proof.

supplies: white out, paint, markers, colored pencils, ink pens, stencils, etc

looking North

5 stacks of 10

looking South

Here's 2 that Julie designed

#47, 48, 49, & 50

Today I helped Jon finish up a few little recording things for his side. And we're going to start working on the sleeves soon. He's downstairs right now recording a small drum part.

And... (!!!!!!!!!!!!!) I'm buying Matilda a friend today. Her name is Dottie.

More about that later.

It's [mostly more] done.

So I finally got everything figured out. Only took about an hour and a half to figure out why it was only recording on the left... That could have been 6 tapes... oh well.
After that I went out and got some supplies, made one of the worst stencils ever, and went to work.

Thought I'd post some pictures of past and present progress.

75 tapes

where the so called magic happens

all the cool kids are doing it

all the cooler kids are doing this

3 down. 72 to go.

As of right now, I have 7 done. And it's time to go to work. Hopefully in the next few days I can get things moving a bit more.

It's [mostly] done!

This is Shaun. I'm writing today to inform the internet that Matilda has finished recording her side of the split tape.

And, even more exciting, here is a finished "single" of one of the tracks:

Rolexxx by Mathilda

The song is called Rolexxx and you can download it for free, or stream it at Soundcloud, or my Bandcamp.

The "[mostly]" part that you see in the subject up there... that refers to the actual making of the tapes now. From now until May 20th, I will be using most of my free time putting together 75 cassette sleeves, putting art work on 75 cassette sleeves, putting art on 75 cassettes, and transferring music I just finished yesterday from my computer to 75 cassettes.

Just putting the music on to tape is going to be 20 hours of time.
75 casettes X 16 minutes [15 min of music, 1 min for prep per tape] = 1200 minutes.

Luckily I can just push play and record and start working on the art/design aspect while it records.

Today I hope to get a system in place. I'm going to try and make a few different stencils, find out the best color combos and start work on the music transfer. I did a test tape yesterday, and it turns out that I have something set up wrong because music only came out of the left side.
Today is "get out the bugs" day from now until my real job calls at 2pm.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Wish me luck.

Matilda and Morris sitting in a tree

Dear Friends:

Because I've been in music mode for the last few months, I just can't stop working on things in my free time.
Last night I finished writing 2 new Matilda songs which will appear on the next LP. I will hopefully get working on that as soon as I finish the split tape. The album is tentatively titled, "Fishnets and Regrets" - but don't quote me on that (even though it's in quotes up there)...

But the split tape is nearly done. I have a few small recording changes and mixing issues to finish but I'm working on those Tuesday and Wednesday and should start copying tapes and hand-making sleeves by the middle of this week.

A few bits of info about the tape.
There will be 75 cassettes.
All of the art, sleeves, and text will all be hand drawn, painted, folded, glued, etc.
The tapes themselves will come in 3 different styles: Black, Clear, or White.
Each side of the tape is 15 minutes (and we're both going to fill the sides to the max)
We're both going to release a free digital single from both sides on Friday the 13th of May, 2011.
You can purchase the tape for $4.00 (edit: inflation) $5.00 at our release show [05/20/2011] at the Phoenix Cafe in Hazel Park, or you can order one from: Simple Living Ferndale. Or you could just e-mail me or Jon and ask for one.
Each side of the tape will have a group of original songs as well as a secret cover song shhhhhhhhhh.
If for some reason you're thinking, "Hey, I don't have a tape player and I really want these songs on my Ipod damnit," ... Well, we're working on that. We might make CD-R's once the tapes run out, or perhaps post the songs on a website for download if you bought a tape... I don't know, we'll figure it out.

Early in the morning when Julie is still sleeping I've been working on the Morris Leifer album. I've finished a few new songs for it, and re-did some of the ones I already posted. I'm currently uploading some of said songs to the bandcamp page. If you liked the initial songs, you may or may not like these songs, because I changed them...
But if you didn't like the initial songs, there's still a chance you might not like the new versions, because they sound like the old versions, only better (in my opinion). So here's that link:

This is all for now.

Thank you.

Hacking Away At The Split Tape

Below is the third preview of the tape I've been working on.
The clip is from a song called, "Rolex" and it's kind of punk-y and folk-y all at the same time.
I may re-record certain parts of the song, add or take out other things, but the preview will give you the idea I'm going for.
